City of Laitila in Finland has been inhabited for five thousand years and is today a vibrant industrial and service hub of 8 500 citizens located about 20 km east of Uusikaupunki. Laitila Wirvoitusjuomatehdas beverages, and products for subcontracting in auto, information technology and shipbuilding industries, are manufactured for export. Laitila municipality was formed already in 1869, and in 1986 the City of Laitila was founded.

City of Laitila was looking for a new system for their intranet to increase the productivity of staff communications and to offer more versatile services online. The objective was to make user access to information easier as well as improve interaction and collaboration amongst them.

City of Laitila intranet was implemented using Pl@za Standard Solution 5 website management system locally deployed on the city's internal network. PostgreSQL relational database management system on a Linux server was selected as the technical platform. The intranet was integrated to MS Active Director for user information and to the internal network for Windows single-sign-on (WinSSO). Staff can therefore access content, services and updated information conveniently according to their user rights.

In addition to content, site and group management, City of Laitila intranet offers staff new interactive services such us discussion forums, polls, resource calendar, events and online registrations as well as blogs and messaging services. Furthermore, workspaces can be created for council, board, committee and team collaboration.
